MAKIN035 – Harold Matthews Jr & Justin Stride feat. Kym Franklin ‘The BBN Uplifted’ (Black Sonix & Blackwax Remixes)

Our latest release comes from Chicago’s Harold ‘Big Ed’ Matthews Jr aka Black Beat Niks who has had numerous hot releases over the years & Cardiff’s main man Justin Stride who have come together on this straight from the heart piece of soulful house featuring the vocal talents of Kym Franklin.

The song is very poignant and reminds us that even in times of real adversity we can use music to bring some positivity to our lives. Harold and Justin had been longtime friends and always wanted to work together, after Harold had come out of a low point in his life he wrote this song and together with Justin they were able to take the project to a new level.

The package features remixes from Steve Blackwax and also deeper mixes from Black Sonix which is Justin’s other guise for his more deeper projects, look out for a forthcoming EP dropping on Yell Records this Spring.

Ed says ‘I was dwelling in a very low point and place in my life and I felt defeated. I started relying on my faith and praying. I could’ve chosen defeat but I chose to be Uplifted.’

Miranda Nicole

Miranda Nicole (Born August 26, 1985) is an American singer/ songwriter. Born to eclectic parents influenced by Arts, Music, & Culture in South Central, Los Angeles; Miranda grew up surrounded by music. Beginning with writing poetry and singing at an early age, Miranda wrote her 1st song titled ‘Romeo’ at age 11, the start of many love songs to come.

Miranda began her musical career writing and referencing at Red Zone Studios in Atlanta, Ga. mid 2007 with Battery 5; eventually referencing songs for industry heavyweights like Jazzy Pha and Chris Henderson. As 1/4 of songwriting team turned lifestyle group, 5 Star, and mentored by Delvin Franklin previously of The Wondaland Arts Society, Miranda Nicole took time to learn, explore, and to prepare herself for her performing artist career which began in 2009.

Performing at Atlanta’s most popular venues early on, the release of her debut single ’Kissing You,’ in 2011 on Global Soul Music, captured the ears and attention of House music lovers worldwide; leading to her 1st tri-state tour & on-air radio spins with The Roots, NYC Live on WBLS, 107.5. Playing popular venues like LIV in D.C., Santos Party House & The Funkbox in NYC, New Jersey PAC, & The Machine in Boston, Miranda has also traveled to Los Angeles to perform at RnB Live at The Romanov, Miami for Winter Music Conference 2012, and to New Orleans as supporting vocalist for songstress, Teedra Moses at Essence Music Festival in 2012.

Embraced by both the House music community and Urban, mainstream listeners, Miranda began studying her catalog & fanbase. Developing her sound with a desire to bridge the gap between the two; the outcome was the birth of GLAMSOUL; a blend of Deep House/ Eclectic Soul Music. Encouraged by a conversation with mentor & friend, Teedra Moses, she began promoting her music as a cross between genres & the GLAMSOUL Star was born.

Pairing deep, soulful bass lines & rhythmic percussion with light, jazzy vocals, her music touches on matters of the heart & community. Armed with a passion to express life experiences through tonal vibrations, Miranda Nicole is making her way from the stage into the hearts of listeners worldwide.

Welcome to the GLAMSOUL experience.

Makin’ Moves presents Tortured Soul Live! @ Plan B Saturday 9th May 2015

People are still talking about the Ralf Gum and Monique Bingham event from back in January and Makin’ Moves have only gone and trumped that with yet another stellar line up as they bring Tortured Soul back to London for the first time in 2 years to London’s best club Plan B in Brixton!

The band will be blessing us with new live material alongside Makin’ Moves resident djs Matt L-S and Jamesey who continue to make their mark in the London House scene.

US soulful house trio Tortured Soul are proof that modern soulful house music can be freed from the DJ booth. Influenced by such classic artists as Prince, Heatwave and Kool & The Gang, the band deliver their third cool, groove-centred album, dedicated to the memory of keyboard player and founding member Ethan White, who passed away suddenly in March at the age of 39.

Tastemaker Gilles Peterson has dubbed them “the future of house music”. Led by drummer/vocalist Christian Urich, delivering four-on-the-floor beats topped by a Maxwell-like falsetto, this band plays seamless club classics, always with poppy hooks.

“Hot For Your Love Tonight”, the band’s third album, opens with the ultra cool “I’ll Be There For You”. Other highlights include the deep house of “Don’t Lead Me On” and the handclap-catchy title cut, both of which are co-written by bass player Jordan Scannella.

“I Know What’s On Your Mind” was written and co-produced by Christian and Ethan with South Africa’s house music legend Black Coffee, and the Chic-like “Can’t Keep Rhythm from A Dancer” has received airplay all over the world, including from the UK’s Jazz FM, BBC Radio 2 and Mi-Soul.

Tortured Soul never stop touring the world. In May 2015 they arrive in Europe for dates that include the Southport Weekender, London, Hamburg and Vienna. They are also regular visitors to South Africa and South East Asia.
