MAKINEP009 – LyricL “When You Read This” (Deep Soul Syndicate & Atjazz Remixes)

Singer-Songwriter, FeMCee, ‘Spokenword’ BEFFTA Award Winner 2014, Performance Poet, Author and Artist-Tutor LyricL, is a jubilant, exultant performer, whose animated fresh style exudes joy, in a euphoric and beautiful way!

Born in London to Nigerian parents, LyricL’s early and enduring musical influences came from home. An eclectic catalogue that spans Hip-Hop, House, Jazz through to Afro and Broken Beat with a soulful edge, stirring grooves enhanced by her lyricism and Spokenword.

Nina Provencal ‘Soul Saviour’

(Jihad Muhammad Re-Production includes DJ Fudge Remix)
MAKIN009 – Digital Release

As we head into autumn, Makin’ Moves continue to keep you warm serving up more soulful heat with our next release from Nina Provencal ‘Soul Saviour’. Nina makes a welcome return to the label following her ‘Breakdown’ release, which she featured on earlier this year with producers Solution Soul.  Nina’s sublime soulful vocals and songwriting are creating a stir on the house scene, with further tracks to be released later this year. When speaking with Nina about what’s in store for 2014 she said, “ I really would like to continue to make quality house music, and keep pushing my boundaries, house is so versatile and transcending, I hope to continue working with producers and labels all over the world”

‘Soul Saviour’ originally featured on Nina’s 2004, self written album  ‘Good Stuff’ and our good friend in New Jersey Jihad Muhammad had always liked the track and wanted to re-produce it for the house crowd. Having a history of creating fantastic productions for his own label, Movement Soul and numerous other remixes we put Jihad to work with the original vocal and the results were amazing that all parties agreed that the track needed to be released.

Jihad has introduced a new energy to the track with his beats and combined with Nina’s subtle soulful vocals its worked on every dance floor we have played on this summer from London to New York, Japan and back.

DJ Fudge, also a close friend and one of the hot producers right now currently residing in Hong Kong gives us 3 soulful mixes all great alternatives from the original.

Makin Moves Vinyl Sampler Vol.1

Makin’Moves Vinyl Sampler Vol. 1
DJ Qness feat Xoli M – ‘Don’t Go’ (Quentin Harris Remixes)
SMI featuring Shea Soul – ‘Just Fine’ (Jihad Muhammad & David Harness Mxs)

Summer 2012 saw the birth of a brand new events promotion company in London, ‘Makin’ Moves’. With already a host of successful parties under their belt, head honcho Matt Langrish-Smith and wing-man Jamesey make the next move and launch their exciting new record label.

‘Makin’ Moves Sampler Vol 1′ features 2 wonderful soulful outings, the first is fantastic new song plucked from rhythmic shores of South Africa. ‘Don’t Go’ is a beautiful and deep afrocentric song from Jo-burg star DJ Qness featuring the soothing tones of Xoli M. Two class mixes come from NYC’s Quentin Harris who delivers his signature soulful heat, pinned together by a massively infectious synth bass hook; and a menacing dub, toying with the vocal to a haunting soundtrack of punchy synth stabs and tech-beats. Next up is a gorgeous song from young North London producer SMI, featuring the unmistakable voice of Croydon’s Shea Soul, titled ‘Just Fine’. Mixes come from New Jersey’s Jihad Muhammad, adding in some fancy key work and lush sweeping strings; and San Fran’s David Harness works up a hypnotic groove for the floor.

Matt Langrish-Smith, London’s boy-about-town whose quick bio includes 3 years in Advertising at DMC and 5 years as Head of Events at Papa Records, taking their monthly party ‘Messages’ to the next level. In 2009 he collaborated with Dean Zepherin to set up the internationally acclaim Tribe Records UK (label and events company) with club residencies in Paris, Miami and London. Fast Forward to 2012 and Matt decided to spread his wings and launched a new events company ‘Makin’ Moves’ and joined forces with local London DJ talent, Jamesey. Along with hosting his own radio show on since 2004, Jamesey has been an essential cog in the wheel of London’s soulful & deep house scene, performing at parties including BBE, Soulogic, to name a few. He has also played gigs around the world in Dubai, Russia, Sardinia, Barcelona, and NYC, among others. Jamesey first met Matt whilst at one of his residency parties at This chance meeting of minds marked the beginning of a flourishing new collaboration. In early 2009 they put on their first joint party, ‘Messages’ in London, which was a roaring success. After some years working on other projects the pair have come together once again. Matt & Jamesey both felt there was a gap in the London soulful/deep house scene for some good New York style underground house and also in response to the advent of Tracktor and laptop dj’s, a much needed sacred space to encourage and showcase creative DJ mixing once more. The first event was held at Brixton Clubhouse in July 2012, with DJ’s N’Dinga Gaba (Baltimore) and At One (Atjazz Record Co.) amongst others and was an instant success! Makin’ Moves launched  their new residency at Bedroom Bar (upstairs in the Loft), London, this October. They will be using their events ongoing to showcase all their fantastic artists, including Shea Soul who will be performing a live PA on Friday 9th November.

“Makin’ Moves isn’t just any old record label and events company. We’re looking to do a lot of unique events this year including all day terrace parties, a monthly club residency party and exciting co-promoted events, both here and abroad. We’re looking to use our events to build and expose a fantastic repertoire of new artists on the label.” – Matt L-S
